Ready or Not 2: Directors on Bigger Chaos & Bloodier Extremes
The directorial team behind the recent Scream reboots and the unsettling horror film Abigail have returned to the world of dark, comedic thrillers with Ready or Not 2: Here I Arrive, which released in cinemas on March 20th. The sequel, starring Samara Weaving and featuring Elijah Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar, expands upon the premise of the original 2019 film, pitting Grace (Weaving) and her sister Faith against multiple rival families in a high-stakes competition.
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence, initially gained prominence with the success of Ready or Not, which propelled them to revitalize the Scream franchise. According to reports, the pair approached the sequel with a determination to not only match the quality of the first film but to surpass it. This ambition led to a significant escalation in the film’s intensity and scope.
The creative team’s approach involved pushing the boundaries of practical effects and embracing a heightened level of visceral horror. The filmmakers reportedly weren’t constrained by concerns about excessive gore, prioritizing the creation of a truly chaotic and immersive experience. This commitment to amplifying the mayhem is a key element distinguishing the sequel from its predecessor.
The narrative of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come centers on a more complex and expansive mythology than the original. Grace and Faith are no longer simply navigating a single family’s deadly game; they are contending with four competing families vying for a position of power. This broadened scope necessitated a deeper exploration of the world established in the first film, offering new layers of intrigue and suspense.
The film’s release follows a period of anticipation generated by early reviews and promotional materials. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have spoken about their enthusiasm for revisiting the character of Grace and collaborating once again with Samara Weaving. The directors’ previous work has demonstrated a talent for blending horror, comedy, and suspense, a formula they appear to have refined in the sequel.
As of Sunday, March 22, 2026, Searchlight Pictures has not released official box office figures for the opening weekend of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. The studio has also not commented on potential future installments in the franchise.
