Raptors Trim Roster, Release Five players Ahead of Regular Season
TORONTO – The Toronto Raptors have reduced their roster to 14 players and have two open two-way contract slots, the team announced today, cutting five players including recent draft pick Jalen Chomche. The moves come on the eve of the Raptors’ final preseason game and just days before the start of the 2024-25 NBA regular season.
The Raptors are navigating a critical period as thay assess their roster composition ahead of Wednesday’s season opener against the Atlanta Hawks. These cuts signal the team’s direction as they finalize their lineup and evaluate potential developmental players through two-way contracts. The open roster spot and vacant two-way contract provide flexibility as the raptors approach the regular season.
Among those released were 19-year-old Chomche, selected 57th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. While the Raptors acknowledged Chomche’s raw skills and considered him a potential developmental project, the team ultimately decided to pursue other options for the two-way contract.
Also cut were Roddy, 24, who has bounced between the Phoenix Suns, atlanta Hawks, and Houston Rockets as leaving the Memphis Grizzlies; Rhoden, 26, who appeared in 10 games for the Raptors last season averaging 11.4 points per game; and Sarr, 26, brother of Washington Wizards’ forward Alex Sarr, who had 46 appearances across three seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite Sarr hitting a game-winner against the Wizards in preseason, the Raptors opted not to retain him.
The Raptors will conclude their preseason schedule tomorrow with a game against the Brooklyn nets. The regular season begins Wednesday on the road against the Hawks.
