Bruce Bochy Will Not Return As RangersManager Amid “Financial Uncertainty”

ARLINGTON, TX – Bruce Bochy‌ will not return as manager of the Texas Rangers for the 2025 season, the club announced, signaling a potential ‌shift in direction ⁣following an 81-81 season⁢ and a⁤ World Series title ⁣defense that fell short.⁢ The decision comes amid reported “financial uncertainty” for the association.

The Rangers are not planning ‍a full rebuild, bolstered by⁤ a core‍ of young talent ‌already contributing at the major league level. Outfielders Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter, pitchers ⁣Jack⁤ Leiter and Kumar⁤ Rocker ⁢are currently with the team, and MLB Pipeline’s #4 prospect, Sebastian Walcott, ⁢is projected as a potential big league ‌addition as early as next season. Club officials believe good health from established stars ⁣like Jacob deGrom and ‌Corey seager, combined with continued advancement from these young players, could‍ be sufficient to contend ‌for a postseason berth with only minimal roster additions.

however, improving‌ from an 81-81 record while‌ concurrently reducing payroll presents a significant challenge.

Bochy’s departure is mutually agreed upon, with the⁢ veteran manager perhaps seeking to manage a team with⁣ clearer championship aspirations or considering retirement. He⁢ previously stepped away from managing before returning to ‍lead the Rangers. The organization is reportedly seeking a manager with a strong background in player ‍development, with Skip ‍Schumaker emerging as a leading internal candidate.

Schumaker currently serves ‌as ‌a senior advisor to the Rangers’ baseball ⁣operations department,⁢ having joined the organization ‌after Will⁤ Venable – previously considered Bochy’s likely successor – left to manage the Chicago White Sox. ‌Schumaker’s managerial experience with the Miami Marlins makes him a natural contender for the ‍position.
