Raivo Solstice,a 31-year-old walker,is preparing for his debut at the World Cup in Japan. Inspired by his father and leading Latvian walkers,Solstice began walking at age five at a festival in Valmiera.He has become a multiple Latvian champion in various distances, setting a new national record in the 35-kilometer distance last October with a time of two hours, 33 minutes, and 31 seconds. He now plans his own training, consulting with his father, Ilmārs, who is also a walking coach. Solstice balances his professional career with working as a youth athletics coach. His goal is to perform well at the World Cup and improve upon his current world ranking.The achievements of Aigars Fadejeva and Modra Liepiņš at the Sydney Olympics served as a meaningful inspiration for him.
