Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling was the victim of a burglary at his home while he and his children where present, the club confirmed Sunday. Authorities are investigating the incident, which marks the second time Sterling’s home has been targeted in less than two years.
The break-in raises renewed concerns about the safety and privacy of high-profile footballers and their families. Sterling previously had his Surrey home burglarized in December 2022, forcing him to leave the England World Cup training camp to return home. This latest incident underscores a pattern of vulnerability for the Chelsea star and prompts questions about security measures for athletes.
Chelsea released a statement saying, “We can also confirm that he and his children were present at home at the time.Whilst the ultimate violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful to be able to confirm that he and his loved ones are all safe. We ask that the privacy of Raheem and his loved ones be respected at this challenging time.”
The previous burglary occurred in Oxshott, Leatherhead, on Dec. 3, 2022, during the World cup in Qatar. Sterling departed the England camp to be with his family after learning of the incident, subsequently missing the team’s 3-0 victory over Senegal. Jewelry and watches valued at approximately £300,000 were stolen during that break-in.
In 2022, Sterling flew home early from the England World Cup training camp after the initial burglary. He has yet to comment publicly on the most recent incident.
