Radiodays Europe 2024: Audio Trends & Networking Recap
Riga, Latvia – The Radiodays Europe conference concluded Sunday in Riga, with industry leaders focusing on the evolving landscape of radio and audio, and the increasing importance of collaboration and artificial intelligence. The event, which drew over 1,500 participants from across Europe, saw Bavarian media representatives hosting a networking event for attendees.
XPLR: MEDIA, a Bavarian organization, hosted an evening networking event at Riga’s B Bārs following the first day of the conference. The event featured a speech by Stefan Sutor, CEO of Medien.Bayern, and an overview of current audio trends in Bavaria presented by Lukas Schöne, an audio expert at MedienNetzwerk Bayern. Attendees participated in an XPLR quiz and engaged in discussions over drinks and regional finger food, according to a post on LinkedIn.
Discussions at Radiodays Europe centered on the future of radio, with a key takeaway being the require for collaboration, human interaction, and the integration of AI, according to RadioToday. Sessions included a behind-the-scenes look at Global’s WSQK “The Squawk” and insights from Heart’s Matt Wilkinson on creating effective radio sequences.
Clive Dickens, speaking at the conference, emphasized the pressures facing the radio industry – consumption, sustainability, and investor confidence – and argued that collaboration, rather than isolation, is the key to navigating these challenges. He too highlighted the importance of maintaining a presence in automobiles as listening habits evolve and dashboards change.
A panel discussion on the future of commercial radio, featuring Steve Jones, Simon Myciunka, and Kari Laakso, underscored the need for proactive adaptation to audience shifts, revenue changes, and platform evolution. The panelists agreed that strong content remains central to success.
Radiodays Europe also featured a dedicated space for podcasting, “Podcastday,” focusing on creation, monetization, and collaboration within the podcasting community. The conference included summits and keynote speakers addressing a range of topics relevant to the audio industry.
The event hosted speakers including Baiba Zuzena, Chairwoman of the Board at Latvian Public Service Broadcaster, Emma Conneely of the BBC, and Simon Myciunka, President of Audio & CEO of Audio UK and Bauer Media Group.
