WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgetown University is set to host Qayden Samuels, a highly-rated shooting guard in the 2026 class, for an official visit this weekend. the visit comes as the Hoyas look to bolster their recruiting efforts under head coach Ed Cooley.
Samuels, currently ranked as the No. 20 overall recruit in the 2026 class according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, is a 6-foot-5 prospect from Bishop McNamara (MD). His visit signifies a major recruiting opportunity for Georgetown,as he holds offers from a number of elite programs including Alabama,UConn, kentucky,North Carolina, and NC State. Landing a player of Samuels’ caliber would be a important step in cooley’s rebuilding project for the Hoyas.
The four-star prospect recently spoke with Rivals about what attracts him to Cooley’s program, specifically pointing to the coach’s track record of developing players for the NBA. “Really seeing Thomas (Sorber) get drafted…(Cooley) told me before like, ‘Hey, this kid might be going to the league next year,’ I was like, ‘Oh, okay. Makes sense. Boom. Went to the league.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, wow’,” Samuels said. “So, really just watching him put a kid into the league, which is like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy’. It makes me want to, you know, see if they can contribute the same to me.”
Beyond player growth, Samuels emphasized the importance of a strong coach-player relationship. ”Just the coaching staff and the trust and the loyalty in me.You know, I need them to trust me, play through mistakes and all that. So, really just the trust. That’s it. And the coaching. Having trust in me,” he explained. The outcome of this weekend’s visit could be pivotal in determining whether Georgetown can secure a commitment from one of the nation’s top rising high school basketball stars.
