Yadier Molina has been confirmed as the manager of Puerto Rico’s national baseball team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, marking his return to the role, according to announcements from the Federación de Béisbol de Puerto Rico and MLB.com.
Molina previously managed the team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, leading Puerto Rico to a second-place finish. His appointment for the 2026 tournament was first reported earlier this week and has now been officially confirmed by both the federation and Major League Baseball.
In a statement reported by El Nuevo Día, Molina expressed his ambition for the team, stating their goal is “to compete to win the championship.” He has already identified Nolan Arenado as a key player he is counting on for the tournament.
Puerto Rico will compete in Group A of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which is anticipated to be a highly competitive group. Transportation plans are also underway to facilitate fans attending games, with collective transport connecting Roosevelt Station to Hiram Bithorn stadium, as reported by El Nuevo Día.
The Federación de Béisbol de Puerto Rico has not yet released a full roster or detailed training schedule, but Molina’s leadership is expected to galvanize the team as they prepare for the tournament. MLB.com noted Molina’s return as manager could be a preview of his future involvement with the team beyond the 2026 Classic.
