Publix to Close 7 Southern Stores: Locations and Rebuilding Plans
Publix is closing seven stores across the South, including a South Carolina location, as part of a teardown and rebuilding strategy. The Florida-based grocer announced the closures on October 9, 2026, affecting properties across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Seven Southern Stores Targeted for Closure
The supermarket chain confirmed that seven locations are slated to close their doors. Four of the affected stores are located in Florida, two in Georgia, and one in South Carolina. Inc.com reported that several of these supermarkets are older facilities that will be completely torn down to make way for brand-new stores.
Shoppers in South Carolina will see changes at 208 Saint James Avenue in Goose Creek. That location is among the sites scheduled to be torn down and rebuilt. Publix operates 74 stores across South Carolina, leaving the vast majority of the state’s footprint untouched by this round of closures.

Redevelopment Plans for Goose Creek and Beyond
Not all of the closing supermarkets will remain gone permanently. Inc.com noted that multiple properties on the closure list are older structures intended for demolition and immediate reconstruction. The Goose Creek store in South Carolina and select Florida sites fall into this category, ensuring that local communities can expect modern replacement stores once construction finishes.
