RMC sport’s Walid Achechour Predicts Tight Title Race Between PSG and Marseille
Following Monday’s Classique, RMC Sport consultant Walid Achechour believes Olympique de Marseille is poised to challenge Paris saint-Germain for the Ligue 1 title this season. Achechour anticipates a significantly closer finish than many predict.
“Marseille must go to PSG and make a statement. ‘We just played you,we beat you. Let’s reconvene in six months.’ OM needs to consistently earn points against all opponents, positioning themselves for a final sprint,” Achechour stated.
He forecasts the final points gap between the two rivals will be minimal, predicting “less than eight points” separating them at the season’s end. Achechour cited potential issues for PSG, including a possible “football descent,” bench dissatisfaction, and potential injuries, while highlighting the positive momentum surrounding Marseille under Roberto de Zerbi and their participation in the Champions League.
“Popular opinion suggests a fifteen-point difference, but I believe the opposite,” he added.
currently, PSG leads Marseille by three points in the standings with 29 matchdays remaining. While recent transfer additions suggest Marseille is still developing under De Zerbi, the team faces a demanding schedule.
