PSG Seek Lens Match Postponement Amidst Champions League Tie
RC Lens has formally objected to a request from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to postpone their Ligue 1 match scheduled for April 11th, according to a statement released by Lens officials. The request comes as PSG navigates a crucial period with both domestic and Champions League commitments.
PSG is seeking to reschedule the match against Lens, which falls between the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Liverpool. The club has already successfully had a previous Ligue 1 match against Nantes postponed due to their involvement in the Champions League, and is now seeking a similar accommodation.
Lens manager Pierre Sage voiced his strong opposition to the potential postponement on Friday, stating, “I understand that having more rest allows for better performance. They confirmed this in their match against Chelsea. It’s a club that performs very well in multiple competitions. They also know the constraints. We shouldn’t have to suffer these things.”
Despite Lens’s objections, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) retains the authority to grant PSG’s request. The LFP announced on Monday that the previously postponed match between PSG and Nantes will be played on Wednesday, April 22nd, at 7:00 PM local time. A decision regarding the Lens-PSG fixture is expected to be made by the LFP’s board of directors on Thursday.
Racing Club de Strasbourg has also submitted a postponement request to the LFP, seeking to reschedule their away match against Brest, scheduled for April 12th, in order to better prepare for their Conference League quarter-final match against Mainz.
