PSG Beats Nice 4-0: Nuno Mendes Scores & Reclaims Ligue 1 Lead
Nuno Mendes converted a first-half penalty and provided an assist as Paris Saint-Germain defeated OGC Nice 4-0 on Saturday, regaining the top spot in Ligue 1.
The penalty was awarded after a handball by Morgan Sanson in the Nice penalty area, allowing Mendes to open the scoring in the 42nd minute. PSG entered halftime with a 1-0 lead, a cushion they would build upon significantly in the second half.
Desiré Doué extended PSG’s advantage in the 49th minute, finishing a play initiated by Mendes. The Portuguese international delivered a precise pass to Doué, who slotted the ball past the Nice goalkeeper.
Nice’s chances of a comeback were further diminished when Youssouf Ndayishimiye was sent off in the 61st minute. PSG capitalized on their numerical advantage, adding a third goal through substitute Dro Fernandez in the 81st minute, marking his first goal for the club since arriving from Barcelona.
Warren Zaïre-Emery completed the rout in the 85th minute, securing a dominant victory for Luis Enrique’s side. The win puts PSG back atop the Ligue 1 table with 60 points, ahead of their upcoming match against Toulouse at the Parc des Princes.
The match was described by Yahoo Sports as a convincing win against a “tenacious, even violent” Nice side. Matvey Safonov, the Nice goalkeeper, had a quiet evening, only being called into action with his feet, according to player ratings published after the game.
Vitinha was highlighted for a “masterclass in advancing play,” while Nuno Mendes’ performance was noted as improving significantly in the second half after a “ghostly” first half. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also made damaging contributions despite limited involvement, according to the Yahoo Sports analysis.
