PS5 Price Hike: New Prices for PS5, Pro & Portal in Europe
Sony Raises Prices on PS5 Consoles and PlayStation Portal
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced price increases for its PlayStation 5 consoles and the PlayStation Portal handheld device, effective immediately. The adjustments, detailed in a blog post, impact all models, including the forthcoming PS5 Pro.
PS5 Price Adjustments
The standard PlayStation 5, equipped with a disc drive, will now retail for €650, a €100 increase from the August 2025 adjustment and a €150 increase from its original price point. The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will as well see a price hike, moving to €600 from €500 in August 2025. These changes reflect broader trends within the gaming industry, according to Sony.
PS5 Pro to See Largest Increase
The most significant price adjustment will be applied to the PlayStation 5 Pro, which will be priced at €900, a €150 increase over its previous price of €750. Gamers who secured a console during Black Friday sales in 2025, when units were available for around €650, may find they benefited from a favorable deal.
PlayStation Portal Price Increase
The PlayStation Portal handheld device will now cost €250, a €50 increase from its previous price of €199. Despite improvements made to the device over the past year, its inability to run games natively may deter potential buyers, according to industry observers.
Sony’s Justification for Price Hikes
In its blog post, Sony stated that the price increases were “a necessary measure to continue delivering innovative and high-quality gaming experiences for players around the world” following a careful evaluation of market conditions. The company did not elaborate on specific factors driving the decision.
Broader Economic Pressures on the Gaming Industry
The gaming industry is currently facing headwinds from global economic turbulence. Valve has delayed the launch of its Steam Machine, and a shortage of RAM is contributing to stock limitations for the Steam Deck. Microsoft increased Xbox prices twice in 2025, and Nintendo has announced a price increase for physical Switch 2 games, making them more expensive than their digital counterparts.
