PlayStation 3 hit the market in 2006 and over the years Sony has sold over 87 million units of the device. The seventh generation hardware was not the biggest success of the corporation, but as you can see, the Japanese do not forget about the platform.
Today, PS3 owners can turn on the console to download firmware 4.90 – interested parties must prepare about 200MB of free space on the device. The improvements are probably related to the issue of security, but the corporation does not provide specifics on this topic. Sony only encourages you to download files:
“Always update your PS3 system to the latest software version. With the update, you can take advantage of additional features, improve usability and increase security.”
We can suspect that the corporation has encountered a new security vulnerability, so it was decided to publish the firmware. It’s hard to say how many players will choose to download the files given that new games are no longer coming to the console.
It is worth noting that recently the corporation took care of updating PlayStation 5, which offered users several new features. In the case of PS3, of course, we can no longer count on such attractions.
