Project Hail Mary: Free 3D-Printable Spaceman Model Released!
Moviegoers can now 3D print a miniature replica of a key prop from the hit film Project Hail Mary, thanks to a downloadable model released by the studio.
The model, a stylized spaceman figure, was given to the protagonist Ryland Grace in the film as a tool for visualization. It’s available for free download on the official Project Hail Mary website, according to reports. The release follows a trend of studios engaging with the maker community by providing digital files for props and set pieces.
Paramount Pictures previously released a 3D model from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Markiplier created a 3D-printable haunted popcorn bucket for movie theaters earlier this year. The Project Hail Mary model is particularly appealing to 3D printing enthusiasts, with one maker noting the model’s “surreal” and “alien quality” when printed with silver silk PLA filament on a Bambu Lab H2D printer. A four-hour print time was reported for the PLA version.
The film, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and starring Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller, premiered on March 20, 2026, and is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir. The audiobook version of the novel, narrated by Ray Porter, won the 2022 Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year. The story centers on a school teacher and former biologist who awakens on a spacecraft with amnesia and must save Earth from a looming ecological disaster.
One maker plans to print the model again using iron filament from ProtoPasta, intending to rust the finished product to enhance its otherworldly appearance. The availability of the 3D model is seen as a successful promotional tactic, potentially inspiring fans to engage with the film and share their creations online.
