Progressive Slovakia Leads in New Poll – Slovak Politics Update

Progressive Slovakia⁣ Gains Ground in Latest Poll, Coalition Prospects Remain Murky

Bratislava, Slovakia -‌ Progressive Slovakia⁤ (PS), led ‌by Michal ⁤Šimečka, has emerged as the⁣ strongest ⁤political force in Slovakia, according⁤ to a fresh poll conducted by Focus for 360.sk,released today. The survey, conducted between September 10th adn 17th with a sample size of 1086 respondents, indicates a month-on-month⁣ increase in support for the progressive movement.

While PS currently holds ⁢the lead, the path‍ to forming⁣ a viable goverment remains complex.Smer-SD, the party of former Prime Minister Robert⁣ Fico, remains a notable contender, securing the second position in the poll. However, the combined parliamentary strength of Smer-SD, Voice-SD (led by Matúš Šutaj Eštok), and the Republic (Milan Uhrík) falls short of ⁢the majority needed‍ to govern, currently‌ projected at only 66 seats in ‌the 150-member National ⁤Council.

Current Projections:

* Progressive Slovakia ⁣(PS): 39 seats
* ⁢
Smer-SD: 32 seats
*
Voice-SD: ‍ 17 seats
* ‌
Republic: 17⁣ seats
*
Slovakia Movement: 15 seats
* ⁤
KDH: 11 seats
*
SaS: 10 seats
* ⁢
Democrats: ‍9 seats

The poll also highlights the ⁣precarious position of ‌other parties. ⁢Igor ⁣Matovič’s Slovakia Movement finished fifth, and was notably excluded ⁤from Tuesday’s anti-government protests organized by ‌Progressive Slovakia. The Christian Democratic Movement (KDH)‌ and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) also secured positions, while the Democrats, led by Jaroslav Naď, are hovering near the‍ parliamentary threshold. Parties below the 5% threshold include the Hungarian Alliance,the Slovak National Party,and‍ smaller factions.
