Dr. Shih-Ping Wang: A Profile of the Boise State Music Faculty
Dr. Shih-Ping Wang is a dynamic pianist, dedicated educator, and accomplished chamber musician enriching the Boise State University music program. Her multifaceted career spans performance, collaboration, and a commitment to fostering musical talent.
Dr. Wang has fostered strong musical relationships through collaborations with faculty and students at Utah State University and Brigham Young University. She previously served as a staff pianist at Utah Valley University, demonstrating her versatility and dedication to supporting musical endeavors across institutions.
Recognized for her exceptional talent, Dr. Wang was the winner of the National Taichung University Concerto Competition. She further distinguished herself by receiving top prizes in both the solo and chamber music categories of the National Music Contest of Taiwan. Her performances have captivated audiences throughout taiwan, Europe, Asia, and North America, including performances of her own original compositions for piano trio and clarinet and piano.
Dr. Wang’s academic background is as remarkable as her performance career. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from National Taichung University, where she studied with Hui-Hua Liou, alongside minors in flute performance and composition. She continued her studies at the Cleveland Institute of music,earning a Master of Music in Piano Performance under the guidance of Margarita Shevchenko. She culminated her formal education with a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from Michigan State University, benefiting from the tutelage of both Shevchenko and Dr. Deborah Moriarty.
Currently, dr. Wang resides in Boise, Idaho, with her husband, two daughters, and their beloved dog, Mochi.
