Princess Désirée of Sweden Dies at 87

Princess Désirée, a member of the Swedish royal family, has died at the age of 87, the Swedish Royal Court confirmed on February 2, 2024.

“With great sorrow, I have received data that my sister, Princess Désirée, has passed away,” King Carl XVI Gustaf said in a statement released by the court. The official proclamation did not disclose the cause of death or further details.

Born Désirée Margareta Birgitta on November 22, 1937, she was the youngest child of Prince Gustaf Adolf and Princess Sibylla of Sweden. She married Baron Nils August Björnulf Visingsjö in 1963. The couple had three children: Carl, Kristina, and Gustav. More information about her life can be found on Wikipedia.

Princess Désirée was known for her involvement in various charitable organizations and her dedication to promoting Swedish culture. She maintained a relatively private life, frequently enough staying at her family estate.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements will be announced by the Royal Court in due course. The Swedish flag will be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.
