Prince William Makes Surprise Appearance on The Graham Norton Show
The Prince of Wales made a surprise appearance on the Graham Norton Show to promote the Earthshot Prize, joining guests Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin, and Hannah Waddingham on the BBC One program scheduled to air on Friday.
Prince William stepped onto the sofa after Norton discussed the environmental initiative with the three participating guests. During the broadcast, the group discussed the necessity of balancing optimism and urgency when addressing climate change. The future king also spoke about his long-standing support for Aston Villa and his appreciation for Christopher Nolan films.
William Establishes Earthshot Prize to Fund Environmental Solutions
William established the Earthshot Prize in 2020, taking inspiration from US President John F Kennedy’s Moonshot project that challenged scientists to safely land astronauts on the Moon. The initiative operates around five specific goals: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate.
Each annual winner receives £1 million to scale their environmental solutions. William has committed his participation to the prize through 2030, with upcoming winners for the current year set to be announced at a ceremony in Mumbai in November.
Lagos Fashion Week Wins Prize for Sustainability
Last year’s ceremony took place in Rio de Janeiro, featuring performances by pop stars Kylie Minogue and Shawn Mendes alongside attendees such as former Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel and then-UK prime minister Keir Starmer. Among the 2025 recipients was Lagos Fashion Week, recognized for transforming one of the world’s most wasteful industries by enforcing sustainability requirements for participating designers. The Graham Norton Show episode featuring the Prince of Wales airs on BBC One at 22.40 Friday.
