Prince Andrew Arrested: Birthday Marked by New Scandal
Former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Thames Valley Police confirmed. The arrest occurred at Wood Farm, his residence on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, just after 8:00 AM, coinciding with his 66th birthday.
Plain-clothed officers arrived at the estate in six unmarked patrol cars, with at least eight officers observed entering the property. One officer carried a police-issue laptop, according to reports. Following the arrest, Andrew was transported to a police station for questioning and remains in custody.
Thames Valley Police stated that searches are also being conducted at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk as part of the investigation. The force declined to name the individual arrested, citing national guidance, but confirmed the arrest was made on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
The arrest marks an unprecedented event in modern British history, as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is the first senior royal to be taken into police custody. He was evicted from his long-term home, Royal Lodge in Windsor, earlier this month by King Charles and has been residing at the more modest Wood Farm Cottage on the Sandringham estate.
The investigation comes after the recent release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, which included images of Andrew and raised further scrutiny regarding his past associations. The files contained a photograph of Andrew on all fours above a young woman, and records of email correspondence with Epstein following an evening with a model and actress.
Police have cautioned against any publication that could potentially prejudice the ongoing investigation, reminding the public that the case is now active and subject to legal constraints.
