Richard Gere reflected on the enduring appeal of the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman,highlighting the collaborative effort that brought the beloved film to life.

“We ended up really trying to find a character there that made sense within the structure and the essence of what that piece was,” Gere told People. “To make it heartfelt, to make it charming, make it fun, make it sexy, you know? And we all loved each other. Great trust, we had a marvelous time, and we had no idea that it was gonna be what it was.”

The film, which has as spawned a Broadway musical, reunited Gere and co-star Julia Roberts for the 1999 movie Runaway Bride. Both actors have expressed openness to a Pretty Woman sequel, contingent on a strong script.

“It all comes down to whether or not there’s a good script,” Gere stated in May.

Roberts has even shared a concept for a potential follow-up. During a 2023 appearance on CBS Mornings, she proposed that her character, Vivian Ward, coudl take over Edward Lewis’s business after his peaceful passing.
