Presentation College Carlow Celebrates French Language & Culture Week | Carlow Nationalist

March 21, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Presentation College Carlow recently concluded its annual ‘Semaine Française,’ a week-long immersion in French language and culture. Students participated in a variety of activities designed to build confidence and fluency, ranging from traditional games and treasure hunts to a student-run fashion display.

The week’s program included geography challenges and a unique “speed dating” exercise, with students Rian Cahill, Sarah Duffy, Clodagh Murphy, Nathan George, and Sam Aghware identified as finalists in that event. The fashion show saw third-year students showcase their designs, embracing the opportunity to express creativity through clothing.

Beyond the academic and cultural activities, students also engaged in fundraising for a cause. A crepe morning, organized by the 16 students preparing for a trip to Tanzania in October, raised over €500 for the Terretta Foundation. The Terretta Foundation supports vulnerable children in Tanzania, according to organizers.

First-year students also contributed to the week’s success, with Oisín Cadinot, Oisín Mc Mahon, and Jamie Fenlon recognized as poster competition winners. French teacher Ms. Bowden described the week as “undoubtedly educational as well as enjoyable,” noting that the diverse activities helped students become more familiar with French culture and lifestyle.

The Alliance Française Waterford Wexford, established in September 2025, aims to promote French language and culture in the region through various programs, a parallel initiative to the cultural immersion taking place at Presentation College Carlow. St. Kieran’s College Kilkenny also recently highlighted student participation in French language activities, according to a 2018 record.
