Mendoza Province Extends Deadline for Maternal RSV⁢ Vaccination

Pregnant individuals in Mendoza ‍Province have two more months to receive a crucial vaccine protecting their‌ newborns from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).The vaccination,⁣ now part of the national ⁣vaccine calendar, is⁢ free and available at all health ⁢centers, hospitals, and through⁢ mobile vaccination ⁢services.

RSV poses a significant threat to infants under one ‌year ‍old, especially during winter months. The ⁣vaccine works by transferring antibodies from the pregnant person to ‍the baby, ⁢both through the placenta and via breastfeeding, offering⁤ protection during the first year of ⁤life. Authorities report that vaccination between 32 and 36 weeks of gestation is⁢ recommended, and a new dose shoudl be administered with each pregnancy. ‌Recent studies indicate ⁣a 70% reduction in intensive therapy admissions for babies under one year old⁤ with respiratory conditions linked ‍to the vaccine.

The vaccination aims to protect newborns and infants against severe ‌acute respiratory infections caused by RSV. Circulation of the ⁣virus is highest during winter, with the most vulnerable‌ populations being babies under one year and older adults. ⁢A ‍single dose is required for‌ each pregnancy. The vaccine’s inclusion in the national calendar ⁤ensures accessibility and affordability for all pregnant ⁣individuals in the ⁣province.
