Columbus, OH – Two more $1 million Powerball tickets where recently sold in Ohio, bringing the total number of major Powerball winners in the state to five in the past month, lottery officials announced. The latest winning tickets were purchased at Hudson Express Carryout in Columbus and Poor Boys Kwik-Stock in Champaign County.
The surge in Ohio winners comes as excitement builds around the recent $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot, split by two winning tickets sold in Texas and Missouri. While no one in Ohio matched all six numbers for the grand prize, the five $1 million and one $2 million winning tickets demonstrate a remarkable run of luck for players in the state.
Last week, a $1 million ticket was sold in Mahoning County. Earlier in August, a group of elementary school teachers in Ashland County won $1 million, and a $2 million ticket was sold in Akron. These wins, combined wiht the two latest $1 million prizes, highlight the increased odds of winning during periods of large jackpot accumulations.
The winning numbers for the $1.8 billion jackpot were 11-23-44-61-62 with a Powerball of 17 and a Power Play of 2x. The two jackpot-winning tickets were sold at Big’s 103 in Fredericksburg, Texas, and at a location in Missouri that has not yet been announced.
Each of the jackpot winners will have the option of receiving an annuitized prize of $893.5 million or a lump sum payment of $410.3 million, both before taxes.
