Nottingham Forest Fans Demand Change After Europa League Loss
Nottingham Forest supporters are calling for the dismissal of manager Ange Postecoglou following a 1-0 defeat to Midtjylland in their first European home fixture since March 1996. The loss marks 23 days into Postecoglou’s tenure and leaves Forest without a win under the Australian coach.
The Europa League match, played in front of a sellout crowd at the City Ground, saw a header from a Midtjylland player directed wide of goal. Prior to the game,Forest hadn’t hosted a European match as Bayern Munich’s 5-1 victory in 1996 – three years before Midtjylland’s formation through the merger of Herning and Ikast.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis, having watched Olympiakos lose to Arsenal in the Champions League the previous night, inspected the pitch before warmups. The atmosphere included pyrotechnics, a branded tunnel, and a tifo in the Trent End depicting a Forest campervan with Postecoglou driving and the message: “For a new generation our time has come.” despite the promising setup, Forest’s performance failed to deliver the desired result, leading to growing discontent among the fanbase.
