Pollen Forecasts: New Poll’Occ Platform for Allergy Sufferers in Occitanie
Occitanie Region Launches Daily Pollen Forecast Service
Atmo Occitanie, the regional air quality monitoring agency, officially launched Poll’Occ on Friday, March 20, 2026, a new platform designed to provide daily pollen forecasts for the Occitanie region of France. The service marks a significant shift from the agency’s previous weekly pollen bulletins, offering a more granular and timely resource for allergy sufferers.
The new system delivers forecasts at the intercommunal level, allowing users to input their specific commune and receive localized pollen risk assessments. “You put in the name of your commune and you will be able to notice the forecasts for the territory on which you live,” explained Dominique Tilak, Director General of Atmo Occitanie.
Poll’Occ utilizes statistical models, integrated weather forecasts and artificial intelligence to generate its predictions. The platform also expands the scope of pollen monitoring within the region, now tracking 22 different plant species known to trigger allergies, up from the 16 previously monitored.
The six additional pollens added to the monitoring list are particularly relevant to the Occitanie region, aiming to better pinpoint the specific plants responsible for seasonal allergy spikes. Users can customize their display to prioritize information about pollens to which they are most sensitive, selecting “favorites” to appear prominently in the forecast.
Although leveraging technology, Atmo Occitanie emphasizes the continued importance of human oversight. “Daily, you have human expertise that validates the forecasts that are put online,” a spokesperson stated, ensuring a layer of quality control alongside the automated predictions. The service operates year-round, recognizing that pollen can be present even during the winter months.
The development of Poll’Occ, which began in 2022, involved collaboration with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie, the University Hospital Centers (CHU) of Toulouse and Montpellier, and a network of scientific partners. This partnership aims to improve allergy prevention and public health by providing more accurate and accessible information.
The launch of Poll’Occ represents a first in France, offering a level of pollen forecasting detail previously unavailable nationally. The platform also provides access to the previous day’s pollen and air quality data, allowing users to track trends and patterns.
