Bulgarian political Psychologist Criticizes Politicians‘ Handling of Crises,”Self-Shooting” in Magnitsky Scandal
SOFIA,Bulgaria – Political psychologist Prof. Antoineta Hristova sharply criticized Bulgarian politicians, stating they are creating scandals due to disorientation and a lack of effective crisis management. Speaking on Radio “Focus”‘s program “Bulgaria, Europe and the world in focus,” Hristova argued politicians have become “involved in their own quagmire” amidst a series of ongoing crises.
Hristova cited the recent “Magnitsky” scandal as an example, noting it was initiated by the PP-DB coalition and has resulted in damaging missteps and justifications from experienced politicians like Boyko Borisov and Peevski. She specifically pointed to a discrepancy between Borisov’s claim of lobbying for the lifting of sanctions on goranov and the official position of British authorities as a “very serious blunder.”
“This shows that either things did not go according to the rules of the law and the requirements of the other party, and that again our man involved another party in some illegitimate actions – this is a very bad sign, if so, or simply that this representative of ours very seriously misled the people who sought support from him – Goranov and Peevski,” Hristova stated. “This is an extremely bad signal for Bulgaria’s political morals. We exposed ourselves both to foreigners and to ourselves.”
Hristova also observed that trust in parliamentary parties is currently at a “very low level,” and that there is currently no opposition capable of mobilizing notable public support. She expressed concern that political leaders are making “very serious mistakes” regarding Bulgaria’s position in the evolving geopolitical landscape.
