The unfolding police investigation stems from an early-morning hotel booking at the Pullman East Melbourne involving three adult entertainers following Sydney’s Round 23 victory over Essendon at the MCG. Detectives are preparing to speak directly with the five players as the probe deepens. Isaac Heeney has reportedly been a primary focus of the investigation, and another unnamed player may face questioning under caution regarding activities inside the hotel room. Prominent Melbourne criminal lawyer Tony Hargreaves has been retained to represent the players throughout the process.

All three women present during the two-hour booking have alleged that sexual assaults occurred. These women have subsequently retained civil legal representation. One of the women stated that a total of nine men were inside the hotel room during the gathering. Former AFL player Taylor Adams was also identified as being with the group that night, though uncertainty remains regarding whether he was present inside the room when the women arrived.

Club Officials Provide Voluntary Statements as Finals Loom

Investigators have already gathered voluntary witness statements from four senior Sydney Swans officials, including coach Dean Cox, head of football Leon Cameron, communications boss Tom Chadwick, and head of wellbeing and development Brett Kirk. None of these officials were inside the room when the alleged incidents took place. Witness accounts indicate that one of the women was ejected from the room and locked outside, later confronting coach Dean Cox in the hotel foyer as the team prepared for breakfast and departure between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.

The formal police inquiry now casts a heavy shadow over the Swans as the team prepares to host the Brisbane Lions in a qualifying final at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Two days after the incident, the Swans suspended Heeney, Warner, Blakey, Bice, and Jordon for the remainder of the season. The club stated that the sanctions were issued because the players stayed out late, consumed alcohol, and brought women back to the team hotel in direct breach of internal club regulations. The club emphasized that these internal suspensions were entirely separate from the sexual assault allegations and did not constitute findings of criminal wrongdoing.

Without the suspended players, the second-placed Swans face a severe roster shortage as they attempt to secure two home victories to reach their third grand final in five years. Former Essendon coach James Hird expressed doubts about Sydney’s prospects during an appearance on Nine’s Footy Furnace, noting that the undermanned squad enters a difficult matchup against a rampaging Brisbane side that has lost only one match in three months. Hird remarked that if the Lions hit top form with their full roster of talent, it will prove exceptionally difficult for Sydney given their missing personnel.
