Police Launch Urgent Search for Mother After Newborn Baby Found Dead in Sydney Bin

The unclothed infant was found inside a plastic bag placed within the communal garbage bins of a local unit block, with part of his umbilical cord still attached. Acting Superintendent of the Auburn Police Area Command Darren Sly stated that investigators are working to determine whether the baby was born alive and estimate the body may have been inside the bin for up to 36 hours. Authorities have established a crime scene as forensic teams examine the area and review local security vision.
“My officers are professional, they will do their jobs but like anybody they’re human,” Acting Superintendent Sly told reporters, as reported by ABC News. “We’re talking a newborn baby here… you’re going to have feelings about it… we will assist those police in anyway that we can.”

“It’s very traumatic for that particular lady who found that baby,” Acting Superintendent Sly said, describing the situation as a horrific set of circumstances.
