Agents of the Financial Brigade and two judges performed a search operation at the headquarters of the right -wing party regrouping (RN), in Paristhis Wednesday (9), said the president of the subtitle, Jordan Bardella. The president of the Le Pen Party also indicated that the search included “leaders’ offices” and that archives from the last regional, presidential, legislative and European elections were seized. “This is a serious attack on pluralism and democratic alternation,” said Bardella, a “cruelty” against the party, which leads polls for the first round of the upcoming presidential elections.

The operation is part of the judicial investigation opened in July 2024 on suspected illegal financing of campaigns for the 2022 and European presidential elections of 2022, according to the Paris Public Prosecutor. The court has already condemned the party in March for embezzlement of European public resources, which also resulted in the political disqualification for five years of its leader, Marine Le Pen. Bardella indicated on social network X that the operation started at 8:30 am and that “all emails, documents and accounting records” were seized.
Hoping to run for elections and awaiting the decision of an appeal, Le Pen requested the European Court of Human Rights (TEDH) the immediate suspension of his disqualification. The request was refused on Wednesday.
