Poland Housing: Government Boosts Funding for Affordable Homes

March 22, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

The Polish government has significantly increased funding for housing policy, allocating a record 6.7 billion PLN (approximately 1.57 billion EUR) to construction in the 2026 budget, according to a statement by Finance and Economic Minister Andrzej Domanski. This figure rises to 8.7 billion PLN (2.04 billion EUR) when including funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO).

Domanski stated the increased investment is intended to address a substantial housing shortfall affecting an estimated 4 million Polish families. These families do not meet the criteria for social housing assistance but as well lack the financial means to purchase property on the open market, as reported by the Polish business news portal Puls Biznesu.

The allocated funds are projected to finance the construction and renovation of 18,000 municipal and social housing units in 2026. Over the period of 2024-2026, a total of 35,000 housing units are expected to be completed, Domanski indicated.

The announcement comes amid broader restructuring within European news organizations. Recent reports indicate changes in leadership at CBS News, with Bari Weiss, the network’s recent boss, enacting standards changes that have already resulted in the departure of a senior standards chief, according to the New York Post. Similarly, the BBC recently experienced upheaval following the leak of a memo that led to the removal of two senior executives, as reported by ABC News.

In the United Kingdom, Reach PLC, a major publisher, has also been implementing cutbacks, significantly impacting senior editorial staff and editors, according to Press Gazette. These developments across multiple news organizations highlight a period of internal reassessment and change within the media landscape.
