Poki: The Future of Web Games & Netflix of Gaming

March 1, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Amsterdam-based Poki recorded 100 million monthly players and 1 billion monthly gameplays as of February 25, 2026, according to an interview with Romy Halfweeg, Poki’s Business Development Manager.

The company, which describes itself as a curated collection of web games, has expanded beyond simply hosting titles to building a “web game ecosystem” that includes playtesting tools, software development kits (SDKs), and revenue-sharing systems for developers. This approach was recognized with a “Best in Business” award from the Dutch Game Awards in December 2025.

Poki’s growth is particularly notable in Asia, where interest in web games is surging. Halfweeg noted the increasing availability of HTML5 games on platforms like Reddit and Discord, as well as the emergence of mini-games within fintech applications such as Toss and KakaoPay in South Korea. Poki currently has 900,000 monthly players in South Korea.

Halfweeg, who has a background in game development herself, emphasized the importance of “easy accessibility” as a core value for Poki. She highlighted the ability to play Poki games even on devices like Samsung refrigerators, underscoring the platform’s commitment to reaching players wherever they are. Poki offers over 1,500 games, collaborating with more than 600 developers.

The platform maintains its free access model through advertising, supporting both the platform’s operation and the developers who create the games. Poki offers a wide range of game categories, including puzzles, battleships, and multiplayer options, with over 200 categories available. Popular titles currently include Monkey Mart, Hill Climb Racing Lite, and Stickman Hook.

Poki’s business model has drawn comparisons to Netflix, offering a subscription-like experience for web games without the subscription fee. The company’s focus on curation and developer support distinguishes it from other platforms, aiming to create a sustainable ecosystem for web game development.
