Pokémon’s First Permanent Park Unveiled: PokéPark Kanto Opens Spring 2026
Immersive Entertainment Facility to Debut at Tokyo’s Yomiuri Park
Fans are buzzing as The Pokémon Company announced a landmark new attraction: PokéPark Kanto, its first-ever permanent outdoor theme park. Scheduled to open its gates in spring 2026, the park promises an immersive experience for enthusiasts of all ages.
A World Where Pokémon Live
PokéPark Kanto, named after the iconic Kanto region from the original 1996 games, will span approximately 2.6 hectares within Tokyo’s Yomiuri Park. This expansive new venture aims to create a tangible space where both people and Pokémon can thrive, fulfilling a long-held dream for the franchise. Tickets are slated to go on sale in the fall of 2025.
Shunichi Matsuda, chief creative researcher for Pokémon, shared the vision behind the project during a recent Pokémon Presents broadcast. “Thanks to everyone’s support, Pokémon has developed to its present appearance,” he stated. “In order to create a place where fans can gather and enjoy it, a ‘space where both people and Pokémon can enjoy,’ Pokémon began to create a world where Pokémon actually exists.”
Two Distinct Themed Zones
The park will be divided into two main areas: “Caosa Town” and “Pokémon Forest.” Pokémon Forest is envisioned as a diverse natural landscape where various Pokémon reside, allowing visitors to feel truly immersed in the Pokémon world. Caosa Town, meanwhile, will replicate familiar locales such as Pokémon Centers, item shops, and battle arenas, creating a vibrant hub for trainers and their Pokémon.

A Partnership Spanning Years
The development of PokéPark Kanto is a collaborative effort between The Pokémon Company, Yomiuri Park, and Yomiuri Shimbun Tokyo Company. The three entities will jointly establish a new company, “PokéPark Kanto,” to manage its operations. This venture builds upon a long-standing relationship, marked by initiatives like the “Learn with Pokémon!” educational series in the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper since 2009 and the “Pokémon Wonder” experience facility at Yomiuri Park which opened in 2021.
The choice of Yomiuri Park, situated within the “Tama Hills” natural environment, aligns perfectly with the “Kanto” theme, as the area itself is considered a real-world parallel to the game’s setting. This strategic location provides a fitting backdrop for the park’s immersive concept.
Globally, theme parks continue to be a significant draw. For instance, Tokyo Disneyland, a fellow attraction in the Japanese capital, saw over 25 million visitors in 2023, highlighting the strong demand for such entertainment experiences (Disney Tourist Blog). PokéPark Kanto is poised to tap into this enthusiasm.

This ambitious project represents the culmination of years of collaboration, aiming to deliver an unparalleled, deeply engaging Pokémon experience for fans worldwide.
