Jowai Hosts successful Open to All Master (Veteran) Badminton Championship
Jowai, West Jaintia Hills - The West Jaintia District Badminton Association (WJDBA) concluded its Open to All Master (Veteran) Badminton championship today, September 14, 2025, showcasing spirited competition and recognizing top players across multiple age categories. The tournament, held in Jowai, drew participants eager to demonstrate their skills and vie for championship titles.
This event underscores the growing enthusiasm for veteran badminton in the region, providing a platform for experienced players to continue competing and fostering a sense of community. The championship’s success highlights the dedication of the WJDBA and the commitment of District sports Officer Khroobok Passah to promoting badminton at all levels. Winners received certificates and cash prizes, reinforcing the tournament’s significance for local athletes.
In the 85+ age category (minimum age 40), da-u-ru Laloo emerged victorious, defeating Rimilan Passah and Siddhartha Das with scores of 21-17, 25-23, and 21-17 respectively. the 13-21 & 22-24 age bracket saw goldenstar Kharbuli claim the championship.
The 75+ category (minimum age 35) also saw Da-u-ru Laloo secure the champion title, besting Yutang Kma, alongside finalists Dr.Peterson Lamare and Daymeniv Shullai.
The tournament was supported by the WJDBA, led by President J.M. Pohsngap and D. Pyrbot, and facilitated by the efforts of District Sports Officer Khroobok Passah. Certificates and prize money were awarded to winning players during the final event.
