Pohang City Food Hygiene Checks Ahead of Spring Outdoor Season
Pohang City’s Nam District Office has launched a special sanitation inspection of multi-use facilities within its jurisdiction, beginning March 23rd and continuing through March 27th, officials announced Wednesday.
The initiative targets food preparation and sales businesses located near popular tourist destinations including Homigot Sunrise Plaza, Guryongpo Modern Japanese House Street, and the Oeojeong Trail, as well as those in the vicinity of airports, and terminals. A total of 374 establishments will be inspected, according to a statement released by the Nam District Office.
The inspections will be conducted by nine teams comprised of 19 personnel, including public officials and consumer food sanitation supervisors. Key areas of focus include verifying the absence of expired food products, assessing the hygiene conditions of kitchens and pest control measures, and ensuring proper storage temperatures for refrigerated and frozen goods, according to the Gyeongbuk Ilbo.
Minor violations discovered during the inspections will be addressed with immediate corrective action requests. More serious infractions will result in administrative penalties, officials stated. The Nam District Health Center is also distributing stickers to business operators and employees to remind them of the validity periods for health certificates, and is simultaneously conducting public awareness campaigns on infectious disease prevention.
“We will enhance the hygiene levels of multi-use facilities during the spring outing season to provide citizens with safe food,” said Nam District Mayor Jeong Jeong-deuk, as reported by the Gyeongnam Maeil Shinmun.
The inspections will also examine whether food is being reused improperly, and whether unauthorized food products are being utilized, according to a report from KBSM.net. The Pohang Nam District Office initiated a similar inspection campaign last year, focusing on 450 multi-use businesses, including those near amusement parks and transportation hubs, through March 25th, 2025.
