Poggibonsi Finds Its Voice: A Community christmas Song
Poggibonsi is embracing the holiday season with a unique project: an original song, “It’s Christmas in Poggi,” designed to become the city’s official Christmas soundtrack. The initiative, spearheaded by Laura Martelli, President of the Via Maestra Centro Commerciale Naturale Association, and its Board of Directors, aims to foster a sense of community and civic pride.
The song’s creation was a collaborative effort, uniting three local music schools – HB Music Farm, Toscanina, and Music Tribe – and their directors: Ivan Morelli, Giuseppe Galgani, Filippo Zazzeri, and Emanuele Biotti. The musical composition is by Giuseppe Galgani, with lyrics penned by Filippo Zazzeri and Emanuele Biotti.
“We wanted Poggibonsi to have a moment to recognize itself,” explained Martelli. “A simple but powerful idea that resonated with the music schools.”
The resulting song is described as an emotional tribute to Poggibonsi’s landmarks and spirit, referencing places like the illuminated San Lucchese, the surrounding hamlets, and the Elsa River. Produced by Matteo D’Alessandro at the Music Tribe studio, the track features over seventy choristers from diverse vocal groups – Giuliano del Chiaro, Clara harmonia, Servi della Gioia, and local school workshops – unified under the direction of Emanuele Biotti.Local band La Ginestra, led by Biagio Mazzafera, also contributes to the recording.
Beyond the artistic achievement, Martelli emphasized the project’s broader meaning: ”Much more than an artistic initiative, it is indeed a civic gesture.” The song’s creation was further supported by numerous volunteers donating their time and talents.”It’s Christmas in Poggi” was officially launched with a performance under the Christmas tree in Piazza Enrico Berlinguer.
