PlayStation 5 & Portal: European Prices Revealed | PS5 Pro Cost
Sony has announced significant price increases for its PlayStation 5 family of consoles and the PlayStation Portal handheld, effective April 2, 2026. The price of the PlayStation 5 disc edition will rise to $649.99, the digital edition to $599.99, and the PlayStation 5 Pro to $899.99, according to a confirmation issued today following reports from French content creator Gyo. The PlayStation Portal will now retail for $249.99.
The price hikes represent the third increase for the PlayStation 5 since its launch nearly six years ago, and affect all regions including Europe, where the PlayStation 5 will cost 649.99 euro, the digital edition 599.99 euro, the PlayStation 5 Pro 899.99 euro, and the PlayStation Portal 249.99 euro.
The PlayStation Portal, a remote player device allowing users to stream games from their PS5 console over Wi-Fi, was originally positioned as a more affordable entry point into the PlayStation ecosystem. It features a full HD screen capable of displaying games at 60fps and supports features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers through the DualSense controller, when supported by the game. The device requires a PS5 console to operate and is sold separately from accessories like the PULSE Explore wireless earbuds.
The price adjustments come amid ongoing discussion regarding the value proposition of the PlayStation Portal, with some users reporting minor input lag, particularly in titles like Helldivers 2 and God of War Ragnarok. One user on the PlaystationPortal subreddit noted a significant improvement in performance after upgrading to a PS5 Pro, attributing the smoother experience to reduced lag.
Sony has not publicly stated the reasons for the price increases. The company has yet to announce specific pricing for the updated consoles in all markets, including the Czech Republic.
