PlayStation 5 Dispute Leads to Terroristic Threat in Wise County
A Wise County, Texas, man reported receiving death threats after a dispute over a PlayStation 5, according to a crime report released Monday by the Wise County Messenger.
Deputies responded to a call on March 13, 2026, in the 2400 block of East State Highway 114 regarding the threats. The reporting party stated the issue stemmed from his inability to retrieve the gaming console after loaning it to an acquaintance.
The situation escalated when the two men engaged in a conversation about the PlayStation, which authorities say devolved into “deadly direct threats” against the man seeking its return. Investigators collected statements from both individuals and filed a report, the Messenger reported.
The incident occurred as similar disputes over the sought-after gaming console have surfaced elsewhere. On March 3, 2026, investigators in Cleveland, Ohio, reported a father and daughter were shot while attempting to purchase a PlayStation 5 from an individual they met online, according to a Facebook post by Fox 8 News Cleveland.
The Wise County Sheriff’s Office also reported a separate incident on March 20, 2026, where a 28-year-old man was critically injured in a stabbing reportedly involving coworkers in the Briar area, according to the Wise County Messenger.
The Wise County Messenger also reported the deaths of Ann Fortenberry Hancock, 100, of Decatur, who died March 16, 2026, and Steve Warner, 69, of Decatur, who died March 14, 2026.
