Pļaviņš/Fokerots Lose to Czechs, Secure Second Place in Beach Volleyball World Championship

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – November 17, 2025 – Mārtiņš Pļaviņš‌ and⁣ Edgars Fokerots concluded group play⁤ at the Beach Volleyball World Championships with a defeat against the Czech Republic’s Ondřej ⁣Perušić and David Schweiner, finishing⁤ second in ‍their pool despite earlier victories. The Latvian⁣ duo fell to Perušić/Schweiner‍ 19-21, 12-21⁤ on November 17, 2025.

This result positions Pļaviņš and⁣ Fokerots for the playoff bracket, which ‍will be finalized after 14:00 local time. While a second-place finish means a more‌ challenging path forward, both⁢ teams-along with Graudiņa/Samoilova-continue their pursuit ⁤of championship contention at the tournament. Pļaviņš is competing⁤ in his eighth‍ World Championship, ​while Graudiņa/Samoilova are participating in their fourth.

Pļaviņš/Fokerots ‌began their‍ campaign with a 22-20, 21-17 win over Americans⁣ Troy Partain and Trevor Benesh​ on November 15, 2025.⁢ They followed that with a dominant 21-13, 21-11 victory against Togo’s Kotoka/TOG on November 16, 2025.

Simultaneously occurring, Tina Graudiņa and Anastasija Samoilova secured a⁤ 21-18, 21-17 win against⁢ Japan’s ⁤Siba/Murakami on ⁢November 16, ​2025. Their ⁤match against Italy’s Skamppolis/Bjanki, scheduled for November ​17,⁤ 2025, at 06:30 local time, remains to be‌ played.
