Pistons vs Wizards: Injury Report & How to Watch (March 21)
The Detroit Pistons aim to complete a two-game sweep of the Washington Wizards on Thursday night at Capital One Arena, following a 130-117 victory Tuesday evening. That win propelled Detroit to a 49-19 record, solidifying their position atop the Eastern Conference.
Jalen Duren spearheaded the Pistons’ Tuesday triumph with a career-high 36 points and 12 rebounds. Daniss Jenkins contributed 15 points and seven assists off the bench. However, Detroit’s success came at a cost, as All-Star guard Cade Cunningham exited the game in the first quarter with back spasms, and center Isaiah Stewart remained sidelined with a left calf strain.
The Wizards, now 16-52, were led by Bub Carrington’s 30 points and Will Riley’s 21 in Tuesday’s loss. Washington will look to avoid a 14th consecutive defeat on their home court.
Detroit will be without Cunningham for an extended period due to a collapsed lung, according to team officials. His absence elevates the roles of Jenkins and Marcus Sasser in the Pistons’ backcourt. Stewart is expected to miss at least another week with his calf injury, potentially opening up more minutes for Paul Reed and Ron Holland II.
Washington faces a lengthy injury list of its own. Trae Young will miss his second straight game with a right quad contusion, increasing the responsibility for Carrington, Riley, and Jaden Hardy. Leaky Black is sidelined with a left ankle sprain, and Anthony Davis, Kyshawn George, Cam Whitmore, and D’Angelo Russell remain out. Alex Sarr is listed as questionable with left big toe capsulitis, and Bilal Coulibaly is questionable due to a right heel injury.
Thursday’s game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m. ET from Capital One Arena.
