Budapest – Viktoria Plzeň conceded a late equalizer to Ferencváros, drawing 1-1 in thier opening europa League group stage match on Thursday. Teh result marks the second consecutive late collapse for the Czech side, following a similar outcome against Bodø/Glimt last week.
Plzeň took the lead after 15 minutes through Rafiu Durosinmi, capitalizing on a strong run and assist from Iraqi defender Merchas Doski. FerencvárosS task was compounded in the 36th minute when defender Cebrails Makreckis received a second yellow card for a foul on Matěj Vydra, forcing the Hungarian team to play with ten men for over half the match.
Despite being a man down, Ferencváros increased their pressure after halftime, with coach Robbie Keane making two substitutions at the break, including bringing on former Plzeň player, Cada. Plzeň had opportunities to extend their lead but were unable to convert.
The equalizer arrived in the fourth minute of added time when Aleksandar Pešič scored from a centered ball into the penalty area.
The draw leaves Plzeň with one point, mirroring Slavia Prague’s result in their Champions League opener. Plzeň will next face Malmö FF at home next Thursday. Malmö lost their opening Europa League match 2-1 to Ludogor.
