Pickleball Tournament: Swindon Event Celebrates Fast-Growing Sport
Over 200 pickleball enthusiasts, including competitors from Australia and Hong Kong, are expected to participate in the Swindon Pickleball Spring 2026 Festival this weekend, celebrating the rapidly growing sport.
The festival, taking place in Swindon, showcases a game described as a blend of tennis, table tennis, and badminton. Organiser Shaun Jones emphasized the inclusive nature of pickleball, stating it is “easy to learn” and suitable for all abilities. “Taking part is always a laugh,” Jones said, according to reports.
Pickleball’s appeal extends across age groups, with Wiltshire resident Nicky Borman noting that she has seen people of all ages “get hooked” on the sport. “It’s the only game that leaves me constantly smiling,” Borman said, expressing her anticipation for the festival.
The Swindon Pickleball Club, established in June 2023, has already welcomed over 150 local players, offering sessions for beginners, intermediate, and competitive players. The club provides guidance for newcomers and coaching for those seeking to improve their skills. Members also participate in numerous tournaments.
Players can join the Swindon Pickleball community via WhatsApp and book sessions through the Spond platform. The club offers free use of paddles, balls, and nets to those who do not have their own equipment. Weekly sessions at the Delta Tennis Centre are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-9pm, costing £7.50 per player.
Mike Brockwell, a pickleball player from Wiltshire, highlighted the international draw of the Swindon festival. “You’d never reckon someone would come from Australia or Ireland to come and play pickleball in Swindon, it’s great,” he said. He also emphasized the social aspect of the sport, noting that it’s “not just about the sport it’s about the people you meet.”
Swindon Pickleball’s mission includes furthering public interest in the sport, supporting players of all levels, promoting pickleball activities throughout Swindon and Wiltshire, and developing local facilities, potentially in cooperation with Swindon Borough Council and other clubs.
