Long-term data indicates a significant escalation in US diesel costs. The current price of 5.643 USD per gallon represents a 57.10% increase compared to the price of 3.592 USD per gallon recorded one year ago. The Energy Information Administration notes that diesel prices typically follow oil prices and are a critical metric for the construction, freight, and trucking industries due to their high consumption levels.

The Energy Information Administration is scheduled to release its next update on retail gasoline and on-highway diesel prices on April 14, 2026.
