Phil Collins Returns to Drums: New Video Thrills Fans After Health Struggles

February 13, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Vevey, Switzerland – Video footage circulating online shows Phil Collins, 75, back behind a drum kit, sparking an outpouring of emotion from fans who had believed his drumming career was over due to debilitating health issues. The footage, shared via Instagram by the account “Musora” in collaboration with “Drumeo,” originates from a forthcoming documentary titled “Phil Collins: Drummer First.”

Collins, whose career spans both a successful solo run and his tenure as the drummer and vocalist for the band Genesis, has faced significant health challenges in recent years. He suffers from Type 2 diabetes and complications stemming from a spinal injury. According to the Daily Mail, Collins has undergone five knee surgeries and requires round-the-clock care.

In 2022, Collins announced the end of his drumming career, citing his physical limitations. That same year, Genesis completed its farewell tour. The new video offers a surprising glimpse of the musician revisiting his signature instrument.

Fan reactions to the video have been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing joy and gratitude. One fan wrote on social media, “Phil will always be a legend! Thank you, Phil!” Another commented, “If there’s one thing I wished for more than anything, it was to see him live with my mother. An absolute legend and the soundtrack to my childhood!”

Collins recently discussed his health struggles in a BBC interview, detailing the extent of his physical difficulties. “I had problems with my knee, everything that could go wrong did go wrong,” he stated. During a hospital stay, he contracted Covid-19, further impacting his already compromised kidneys.

While Collins can now walk following multiple surgeries, he relies on crutches and other assistive devices. A recent, rare photograph of the musician was shared by his son, offering a glimpse into his life outside of the public eye.

The documentary “Phil Collins: Drummer First” is expected to provide further insight into the musician’s life and career, and the challenges he has overcome. A release date has not yet been announced.
