Phil Collins Criticizes Donald Trump and Teases America Song

October 6, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

British rock icon Phil Collins appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored to discuss his upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction as a solo artist, using the platform to criticize United States President Donald Trump as “nasty” and reveal a prospective songwriting concept titled “Fat People With Guns.”

Phil Collins Criticizes Donald Trump’s Public Demeanor

During the Friday interview, host Piers Morgan asked the 75-year-old musician for his assessment of President Donald Trump. Collins answered “not a lot,” taking direct aim at the politician’s public conduct and comparing him unfavorably to past American leaders. “His whole manner is unattractive,” Collins told Morgan, as reported by stereogum.com and nypost.com. “Even when he’s saying he did nothing. But when someone like Trump is as nasty as he is, you end up feeling dislike for him.” Collins further characterized Trump as operating governance strictly through transactional metrics, noting that the president views diplomacy purely as a deal won or lost.

Unwritten America-Themed Song Concept

Expanding on his observations of the United States, Collins revealed that his songwriting process involves logging provocative phrases for potential development. At the 26:40 mark of the interview, he disclosed an unwritten concept. “I’ve got a song that’s waiting to be written called ‘Fat People With Guns,’ which is about America,” Collins stated, according to stereogum.com. He added that he records the phrase to prevent forgetting it, noting he might eventually write music around it before someone else does.

Additional Interview Revelations

During the wide-ranging conversation with host Piers Morgan, Collins insisted that he does not normally involve himself in political matters, stating, “I’m not a political person, but I do see right from wrong.” He also questioned whether Trump would respect the constitutional limits on the presidency, noting that American presidents can serve only two terms and remarking that it would not surprise him if Trump tries to overrule that restriction. Collins further cited Robert DeNiro’s disdain for the current American enterprise to express his fears regarding the state of the country’s governance. In discussing his broader music career, the legendary drummer noted that he has not played the instrument in 15 years.
