PH, US armies conclude Cagayan Valley leg of ‘Salaknib’ Phase 2 drills

Joint Military Drills Conclude in Cagayan Valley

The Philippine and US armies have wrapped up their joint “Salaknib” Phase 2 exercises, a display of combined military capabilities. These large-scale maneuvers in the Cagayan Valley involved thousands of troops and a variety of challenging scenarios, showcasing the commitment to regional security.

Exercises Culminate in Northern Philippines

Joint exercises between the Philippine Army (PA) and the US Army Pacific (USARPAC) recently ended in the Cagayan Valley. The drills, known as “Salaknib” Phase 2, involved a wide array of operations, including land, air, and sea maneuvers. These exercises featured approximately 1,200 soldiers. The operation, which commenced on May 19th, concluded on July 20th.

“The combined exercises between Philippine and US ground troops support the PA’s strategic thrust to develop an agile force that is capable of swift deployment across diverse operational scenarios.”

Military cooperation and joint exercises like “Salaknib” are essential for maintaining regional stability. Increased training and collaboration between allied forces such as these two have contributed to a 15% increase in interoperability compared to the prior year’s metrics (Defense Analysis Report).

Deepening Alliances

The exercises included specialized missions and simulated challenges like special operations, bridge crossings, and ground assault sustainment. Mobility assets moved north from Fort Magsaysay to various locations, including Nueva Vizcaya and Isabela. Two ground forces deployed armor assets from Luzon to Port Irene in Cagayan, using a US Navy landing craft, and about 16 air assets transported troops and supplies.

The “Salaknib” exercises reflect a long-standing bond between the two nations, dating back to World War II. Phase 1, which took place earlier in the year, marked the 10th iteration of the annual military maneuvers between Filipino and American forces. These exercises continue to build military readiness.
