Jake Knapp Mourns Girlfriend Makena White, 28, Following Sudden Death
LOS ANGELES, CA – PGA Tour golfer Jake Knapp has publicly grieved the loss of his girlfriend, Makena White, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 28. White’s death was announced on her Instagram page, prompting an outpouring of sympathy from the golf community and beyond.
White and Knapp had been dating for two years, publicly confirming their relationship after Knapp’s breakthrough victory at the 2024 Mexico Open. The couple frequently shared glimpses of their life together, including travels and moments from Knapp’s golf career, on social media.
“Hi everyone – this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week,” a post on White’s Instagram account read. “She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by (her dogs) Nelly and Fergie.” The post described White as having a “huge heart” and overflowing love, adding, “To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule.”
In August, White posted a heartfelt anniversary tribute to Knapp, writing, “Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams. Second season in the books - forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many many more! I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud.”
Knapp has not yet released a personal statement beyond acknowledging the news through social media.
No cause of death has been released. Friends and colleagues have expressed their shock and sadness, with golf insider Dan Rapaport commenting on White’s final Instagram post, “What a light she was.” CBS golf reporter Amanda Balionis added,”Getting to know Makena was one of my favorite parts of this last year… So much laughter,passion and she never met a stranger. I will miss her light… it touched so many.”
The family has requested privacy and respect during this difficult time.
