Actress Margarita Rosa de Francisco Sparks Debate After President Petro‘s ‘Milky‘ Remark

Bogotá – Actress and vocal supporter of the Colombian government, Margarita Rosa de Francisco, ignited further discussion surrounding President Gustavo Petro’s recent comments about the popular fair food, “milky,” during his trip to Japan. Petro’s statement, made on X (formerly Twitter), described the “milky” – a fried piglet dish – as “a better dish than the sandwich, or the hamburger, or the hot dog” and claimed 10 million tons are sold at the fair, drawing widespread skepticism and a flurry of online reactions.

De Francisco responded to the controversy with a strong statement on X, declaring, “In my dictatorship I will prohibit the milky.” She elaborated, stating the thought of hearing a pig’s squeals during slaughter is deeply unsettling and argued for the intelligence of pigs, comparing them favorably to dogs and cats. “Imagine that in front of one go a truck full of dogs and cats towards the slaughterhouse,” she wrote in her post on September 8, 2025.

The president’s initial claim of 10 million tons of piglet sales has been widely questioned online, prompting memes and debate about the scale of consumption at the fair. De Francisco’s response, however, shifts the conversation towards the ethical implications of consuming the dish, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing discussion. Her position is notable given her history as a prominent defender of the current management on social media.
