Petr Obdržálek: Life and Legacy of Czech Television Director

czech television director Petr Obdržálek,best known for his decades-long work on the popular annual calendar,has died. He was 79.

Obdržálek guided the creation of the calendar until this year, when he stepped down due to health concerns. His passing marks the end of an era for a Czech cultural institution that has been a fixture in homes for generations. He frequently focused on children’s and entertainment programming throughout his career with Czechoslovak Television (ČST), including directing “Little TV Cabaret” (1977), the series “Friends of Good Water” (1985), and the music-entertainment cycle “Karel Šíp and Jaroslav Uhlíř Klip Klap” (1987).Obdržálek often collaborated with his wife, Saskia Burešová, throughout his career.The couple married in 1972.Burešová is also known as the face of the calendar. Obdržálek died on September 3, 2025.
