Zurich’s Atelier Peter Nitz has expanded its operations with the launch of a ready-to-wear leather goods collection and the opening of its first boutique, located near the historic Cabaret Voltaire in the city’s Old Town.

The Swiss-American leather craftsman, Peter Nitz, established his brand in 2009, initially focusing on bespoke, hand-stitched luxury leather goods. For years, Nitz operated as a one-man operation, catering to a clientele willing to wait months for a custom piece. His work has garnered a reputation for meticulous craftsmanship and quality, attracting customers from around the globe. Previously, production was limited to approximately one hundred bags annually.

The new collection marks a shift towards a broader market, offering a curated range of leather goods designed for everyday elegance. The launch includes the “Libby Tote,” inspired by the brand’s popular “Dream Bag” from the bespoke line. Prices for Peter Nitz leather goods range from approximately 9,000 to 40,000 Swiss Francs, depending on the leather used.

Nitz emphasizes ethical practices and responsible sourcing, prioritizing transparency and sustainability in his work. His designs are characterized by clean lines, impeccable leather quality, and subtle branding – a small, discreet logo. Signature details include a round metal clasp featuring a stylized claw, or the curved opening on the “Dream Bag.”

The expansion includes bolstering the atelier’s capacity to meet the anticipated demand from the new ready-to-wear line. The collection currently features the Large and Medium Libby Totes in Arosa and Geneva Calf leather, as well as the Large Zip Pouch in the same leathers. Micro Dream Bags are available in a variety of materials, including Antique Mauve Alligator, Black Velvet Elephant, Denim Alligator, Gray Elephant, Olive Elephant, Ombré Lizard, and Pink Lizard. Several items are currently sold out.
